Security Testing Tools by Microsoft

The Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) team at Microsoft released two security testing tools. BinScope Binary Analyzer A Microsoft verification tool that analyzes binaries on a project-wide level to ensure that they have been built in compliance with Microsoft’s SDL requirements and recommendations. MiniFuzz File Fuzzer A very simple fuzzer designed to ease adoption of fuzz testing by non-security people who are unfamiliar with file fuzzing tools or have never used them in their current software development processes.

WordPress warns of wayward worm

Users of the WordPress blogging platform need to beware of a worm making the rounds of Web sites, if they have not updated their software in the last month, the developers of the popular blogging software said over the weekend. The malicious program affects blogs that use WordPress, and which have not installed either of the two latest updates, released on August 3 and August 12. Serious security bug found in Windows Vista

An independent security consultant publicized this week the details to a critical flaw in the server message block version 2 (SMB2) component of Microsoft’s Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and the release candidate for Windows 7. The researcher, Laurent Gaffié, claimed in his advisory that the vulnerability causes a Blue Screen of Death, a pernicious crash on Windows system, but other researchers have subsequently concluded that the flaw is actually remotely exploitable, a more serious issue.

San Francisco: A disruption to Google’s Gmail service frustrated users throughout the world Tuesday and flummoxed engineers at the giant internet company. Google said the problems started early in the morning and were not resolved until approximately 2330 GMT.
