Android mobile phones outsell iPhone in US

A recent research report by analysts NPD has discovered that handsets running on the Android operating system has been outselling Apple’s iPhone in the USA for the first time.

In the report the Android devices held 28 percent of the mobile market, with Apple on 21 percent and BlackBerry maker RIM holding 36 percent as the market leader.

According to Google at least 34 different handsets run the Android operating system, giving it a strong position of gaining market share with more choice in make, design and price.

However the Apple iPhone which launched three years ago has gained a strong position in market share, and with the launched of the much anticipated iPhone 4, its market share could see a big increase.
