The Difference between Dofollow and Nofollow Links
If you are optimizing your blog or website for search engines you have to get as many links pointing to your website as possible. Dofollow and Nofollow links are two important factors among many SEO Ranking Factors. For me, both dofollow and nofollow Backlinks can help your ranking on search engines like Google because every single backlink can help your ranking on Google and other search engines as well if you got them from high quality websites. Google count both dofollow and nofollow backlinks and you can check it in Google webmaster tools. It shows that Google counts both dofollow and nofollow links as backlinks and they can help your ranking on it.
Dofollow html attributes state that you allow the search engine bots to follow and pass page rank to the link’s target page. With DoFollow link, you will gain the backlink from the website. This help to increase your page rank. Nofollow html attributes state that you do not allow search engine bots to follow a link or pass link juice i.e page rank to the link’s target page. I’ve read somewhere that anchor text of no follow links still carries a minimum amount of PageRank.
In terms of traffic, both the values are beneficial and important. If dofollow links are good for gaining link juices (Page Rank), then the nofollow links can bring your lots of traffic to your site for free. As a result of not passing PageRank, many link builders have largely ignored nofollow links. However, any experienced SEO knows they still have large amount of value for many reasons as below:
- Nofollow links may not pass PageRank but visitors can still click them to get to your site. For any website, direct referral traffic is obviously a very important thing.
- Nofollow back links certainly are a normal part of virtually any reputable website link report.
- Nofollow links may not carry PR but they do carry something. They carry whatever Google wants them to carry.

To make an individual link nofollow, the value is added to the rel attribute in the html link tag:

Information: The nofollow attribute was developed in 2005 by Google to help combat link spam in the comment section of blogs. It was designed so that webmasters could attach it to all unwanted links that are unrelated to their site, so that Google could improve the quality of their search engine results.
